Official Qualcomm Snapdragon 4 Gen 2: new chip for low-cost smartphones

After the announcement of the new agreement between Sony and Qualcomm for a collaboration aimed at the production of new mid-high-end smartphones, the US giant reveals its latest low-cost mobile chipset, Snapdragon 4 Gen 2 . This solution, equipped with a proprietary CPU, will allow low-cost smartphones to level up and offer superior performance, without causing a drop in battery life which, on the contrary, is further optimized.

So let’s look at the key specifications of this SoC.

Qualcomm Snapdragon 4 Gen 2

Qualcomm Snapdragon 4 Gen 2 is official

The chipset in question comes with a Qualcomm Kryo CPU with a peak speed of 2.2 GHz , for a slight increase over the first generation. The supported fast charging technology can then reach up to 50% charge in 15 minutes, while on the display side, the platform offers support for modern FHD + panels with a maximum refresh rate of 120Hz.

There are also substantial innovations regarding the camera sector, including electronic image stabilization, faster autofocus and improved blur reduction. Additionally, the Snapdragon 4 Gen 2 chipset provides Multi-Camera Temporal Filtering (MCTF) for dramatic noise reduction when shooting video.

And how to say no to artificial intelligence ? AI manifests itself here in the form of camera upgrades, especially on the lighting side. The algorithms will allow camera apps to take pictures in low light environments automatically looking for the best setting. Also comes support for a background noise removal tool. Finally, on the connectivity side, there is the proprietary 5 GB Modern-RF X61 system for “incredible speeds” with the Internet.

Which smartphones will Qualcomm Snapdragon 4 Gen 2 come to? The first candidate belongs to the Redmi range and should arrive by the end of 2023, while vivo has followed closely behind the brand under Xiaomi by committing to add the chipset to its lineups.
