The big Windows 11 update is out: what’s new

Microsoft has rolled out a significant update to the Windows 11 operating system, reaching version 24H2. Here are the key changes and improvements:

  • Phone Link now features a side panel in the Start menu showing smartphone battery status, message alerts, and quick access to messages, photos, and calls.
  • New HDR wallpapers for better display quality.
  • Easily switch monitor color profiles directly from the settings.
  • System tray redesign, featuring a new look for the clock and date.
  • Laptop power saving mode for extended battery life.
  • Customizable actions when closing the laptop lid or pressing the power button.
  • Introduction of the sudo command, similar to Linux, for enhanced control.
  • Microsoft Teams now has one version for both personal and corporate accounts.
  • The classic Mail and Calendar apps are replaced by the new Outlook client.
  • Copilot has transitioned into a web-based app for seamless integration.

In File Explorer, new features include tabs for Recent, Selected, and General files, an updated context menu, and quick access shortcuts for copy, paste, and rename operations. Additionally, users can now create 7Z and TAR archives using built-in tools, eliminating the need for third-party software. Enhanced cursor precision and scroll direction adjustments are especially beneficial for touchpad users.

The update also brings support for Wi-Fi 7 and Bluetooth LE, improving connectivity options. For desktop users, AMD’s latest processors see performance boosts, thanks to this update.
