Qualcomm may call its upcoming Snapdragon 898 processor a completely different name; this is what has recently been revealed by leaks that have emerged on the net.

Qualcomm’s long-awaited Tech Summit is said to be scheduled for November 30th and is set to raise the curtain on this year’s flagship processor: the Snapdragon 898. All very nice but there is a problem. It is rumored that the latest chip will not be called that at all; the company is said to want to change the naming scheme by choosing a ” Snapdragon 8 Gen1 ” as the new name.

The information comes from a well-known tech blogger who has hinted that the familiar three-digit naming convention is about to end.

However, according to insider information, Qualcomm’s flagship chip will retain the ” 8 ” of its old moniker, which should be enough to convey its flagship status. For the uninitiated, Snapdragon 8 series SoCs have always been top of the line and have mostly been limited to high-end smartphones.

Coming to the Snapdragon 8 Gen1 itself, or whatever you want to call it before its launch, this is said to offer a 20% performance improvement over its predecessor. It will feature one main ARM Cortex-X2 CPU core running at 3.0GHz, three Cortex-A710-based mid-cores clocked at 2.5GHz, and four efficient Cortex-A510 derivative cores running at 1.79GHz.

Associated with the CPU will be the Snapdragon X65 5G modem which can theoretically offer a maximum downlink speed of 10 Gbps. The graphics bit will be handled by an integrated Adreno 730 GPU . Speaking of this graphics card, it is said that it will allow performance never seen before.
