MediaTek Dimensity 9000 can beat Apple’s Bionic A15

MediaTek supplies its chips to numerous Android smartphone manufacturers. But we should note that the company’s high-end products have never quite reached the level of those having a Qualcomm Snapdragon series SoC ever. However, MediaTek’s latest Dimensity 9000 may change this direction.

MediaTek Dimensity 9000: real performance

The Taiwanese giant claims that the multi-core performance of the D9000 chipset is comparable to that of Apple’s Bionic A15 seen on the iPhone 13. Furthermore, its overall performance is 35% better than that of the Snapdragon 888.

At an event organized by the company earlier this week, MediaTek just unveiled the Dimensity 9000. It is the company’s most powerful chip ever to date. The performance of the SoC will be around 35% faster than the Snapdragon 888 and its graphics performance will surpass that of Qualcomm’s rival.

MediaTek Dimensity 9000

The Dimensity 9000 architecture is based on TSMC’s 4nm process. It uses the Cortex-X2 core with a main frequency of 3.05 GHz. Besides this, there are three Cortex-A710 cores with the main frequency of 2.85 GHz and four Cortex-A510 cores with the main frequency of 1.8. GHz. The Mali-G710 GPU has ten cores. The APU consists of four high-performance and two flexible cores.

To further enhance the chip’s functions, the image signal processor is an 18-bit 7th generation Imagiq ISP . The latter can capture 320MP images and transmit data at a speed of 9 billion pixels per second. The onboard modem supports 5G networks, but only a sub-6GHz standard.

This means the chip is likely not being used in the United States . In addition, the chipset in question also enjoys Bluetooth 5.2 and Wi-Fi 6E.

Now that we know all about this chip, let’s see how it performs in the benchmarks. The Taiwanese company said that Dimensity 9000’s multi-core score is roughly equivalent to that of the A15 in the iPhone 13. In general, it scores more than 4000 points. However, MediaTek did not disclose the comparison in the other aspects with the apple chipset. Very often, Cupertino SoCs are much more powerful than rivals seen on Android devices.

In terms of AI, the company claims the Dimensity 9000 even beats the Google Tensor chip.
