hypixel

IP: mc.hypixel.net
Average online player count: 48,040

Hypixel will make almost every top 10 list for a reason. Although the average player count for the server has dropped over time, it’s still one of the largest servers. In general, active Minecraft servers have between 300 and 9,000 players online at the same time. Hypixel is the only server that regularly has five-digit player counts online. Play many different games like BedWars, SkyWars, VampireZ, Paintball Warfare and an arcade full of smaller mini-games. You’ll never get bored on this server, and it pretty much stands on its own as a game in its own right.

Complex gaming

IP: hub.mc-complex.com
Average online player count: 1,100

Complex Gaming is a veritable hub for Pixelmon, the Pokémon-inspired Minecraft mod. They have server subsections inspired by multiple Pokémon games, from Pokémon Red to Pokémon Platinum. To play Pixelmon you need the Pixelmon mod for Minecraft. However, unlike most Pixelmon servers, there are a number of other game modes on the server that don’t require players to install mods, such as the standard Skyblock, Survival, Factions, Creative, and Prison.

Chaos MC

IP: mc.havoccmc.net
Average online player count: 300

Originally known as The Mining Dead, Havoc MC is the server to go to if you want to find yourself in the middle of a zombie apocalypse survival game. Their game is based on the AMC TV show The Walking Dead is the main attraction of the server. It has PvE, but you can also team up with friends or fight other players in PvP. It’s not the only game anymore (hence the renaming). There’s Towny and Warzone now, and two more games are coming soon: Mine Wars (a Star Wars-inspired game currently in exclusive beta for Premium members) and Craft Theft Auto.

Among Us Performium

Average online player count: 500

When two of the most popular games come together, pure enjoyment ensues. Although there is an exclusive game mode centered around the original Among Us game on this server, there are other mini-games that will keep you busy.

The Beehive

IP: play.hivemc.com
Average online player count: 9,000

If you’re looking for a solid, extremely active minigame server, The Hive is the server for you. This server has been around since early 2013 and has remained an unobtrusive part of online Minecraft play ever since. It has stayed up to date and active all the time and they are constantly updating features and adding new games like BedWars, BlockParty and Hide and Seek.

This server also has the bukkit plugin with the meowball. You can use a customized Blaze Rod called the FunGun that shoots snowballs that explode into flames, and hearts have the “meowballs” sound effect known as Meowballs on impact. While it is not difficult to install Meowballs on your server, this is the largest server that allows it for all players. Throw them in the air, at your friends, or anywhere you want in the main server hub. The Java version of the server was recently shut down, but players can still enjoy the bedrock edition.

Fallen Kingdom

IP: play.fallenkingdom.co
Average online player count: 200

Have you ever wished Minecraft was a tower defense game? You can explore what that would look like on the Fallen Kingdom Minecraft server. Inspired by the Fallen Kingdom universe created by popular YouTuber Jordan Maron (CaptainSparklez), this server lets you choose your kingdom’s colors and create different raid paths. One downside is that you have to choose between being a king or queen, making it both unwelcome for non-binary players and awkward for players who can share an account with a person or people of different genders. Hopefully a third “Royal” option will be added in the future, but the game itself is well made and a lot of fun. The smaller number of players is also not a problem,

CubeCraft

IP: play.cubecraft.net
Average online player count: 6,000

If you’re looking for a larger, active server, but Hypixel is too much for you, Cubecraft is a fantastic alternative. The custom texture pack has slick lobby designs, and all game modes can be selected from a section reminiscent of a retro arcade. It offers games like Lucky Islands, CTF and its own original version of Among Us/Hidden RPG called Among Slimes. Note that this game mode is unique to CubeCraft, unlike the imposter game on MineVille. This server is usually among the top 5 most active servers in the world.

ManaCube

IP: play.manacube.net
Average online player count: 700

At first glance, ManaCube might seem like another fairly active minigame server, but by far its biggest draw is actually its parkour. The Parkour section alone averages around 750 players, as active as some other servers overall. There are over 1000 parkour courses ranging from simple maps to near impossible. Only 42 cards are VIP only, and the server also has droppers that fall into a similar category. The only downside to ManaCube is that it can be buggy at times, more so than the other servers on this list. However, the content it contained was too good to pass up.
